UN Resident Coordinator Office in the Republic of the Congo
The United Nations Resident Coordinator Office (RCO) is the primary support structure for the Resident Coordinator and the UN Country Team (UNCT) in the Republic of the Congo. Its mission is to strengthen joint activities within the UN system, ensuring a coordinated approach to maximize the impact of the UN’s work. The RCO aims to provide a collective, coherent, and integrated response to national priorities and needs, in alignment with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and other international commitments.
The UN Resident Coordinator serves as the leader of the UN Country Team, bringing together various UN agencies to enhance the coherence and effectiveness of their development efforts in the country. The Resident Coordinator oversees the coordination of UN operational activities for development, ensuring that UN assistance aligns with national development priorities and capacity-building needs, in accordance with international treaties and development objectives.
Acting on behalf of the UN system, the Resident Coordinator maintains a neutral stance while strategically positioning the UN in the country. They uphold and promote the UN’s commitment to human rights-based programming and humanitarian law, ensuring that UN entities and staff fulfill their responsibilities in these areas.
